Explore tree and mast habitat filters

Compare modeled tree habitat, then record what you actually find in the field.

Where to start in the appLayers → Habitat & Vegetation → Mast Habitat Intelligence
  1. 01

    Choose overview or tree filters

Open Filters & details for Mast Habitat Intelligence. Oak habitat overview shows broad forest groups. Tree filters lets you explore a particular modeled species instead.

  2. 02

    Pick the trees to compare

Expand Choose trees. Search by name or use regional picks; select up to eight trees. Options include oaks, persimmon, honey locust, crabapple, wild plum and cypress where listed.

Choose up to eight modeled trees, then toggle one to inspect its habitat layer. These are historical 30-meter estimates, not individual-tree identification.
  3. 03

    Check and map a species

Choose Check map center to inspect the selected trees at that location. Use Map beside one species to display its modeled biomass. Switch species in the same controls or use Hide to clear that filter.

  4. 04

    Record a real field observation

Use View map to explore without losing the layer. When you inspect a tree, save a tree pin and photos of the leaves, bark and fruit. Keep confirmed observations distinct from modeled habitat.

WHEN SOMETHING LOOKS DIFFERENT

Quick answers.

Does this identify the exact tree in True 3D?

No. This uses USFS forest models in 30-meter cells from 2014–2018 evidence. True 3D is not required and does not improve that dataset. Species and present-day nuts, fruit or pods need field confirmation.
