    Find your area first

Search for the place you want to study, then turn on LiDAR. Let the source finish loading after you move or zoom.

Use the terrain surface to inspect subtle relief. Source resolution and coverage determine what can be resolved.Map attribution retained: Mapbox.
  2. 02

    Compare ground features

Look for drainage lines, benches, low crossings and subtle ridges. Change viewing angle in 3D terrain to understand the shape, then return to a straight-down view for placement.

  3. 03

    Cross-check with imagery

Switch back to imagery to see vegetation, roads and water around the terrain feature. Drop a private observation pin when there is a useful place to inspect.

  4. 04

    Check source limits

Read the layer details if the view looks smooth, incomplete or unchanged. Resolution and coverage come from the source; zooming farther in cannot manufacture additional elevation detail.
